Dr. Mike Reik
Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Reik began his employment with Platte County School District in the fall of 2001, acting as assistant principal in a dual role, both at Barry School and Platte City Middle School. After serving in that capacity for three years, he spent the following two years as the principal of Barry School. In the fall of 2006, Dr. Reik moved to the district office as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum followed by Assistant Superintendent of Support Services. Beginning with the 2009-10 school year, Dr. Reik became Platte County R-3's fifth Superintendent of Schools.
Dr. Reik began his career in education as an elementary teacher in the Peoria Public School District in Illinois. He then moved to Liberty Public Schools where he taught first grade for three years prior to his administrative move to Platte County. Holding a Bachelor of Science from Bradley University and a master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University, Dr. Reik received his Doctor of Education in educational policy and leadership in 2007.
Dr. Reik is currently serving as President of the Cooperating School Districts of Greater Kansas City (CSDGKC), an executive committee member of Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA), an executive member of the Suburban Conference of Greater Kansas City, and a board member for the Northland Center for Advanced Professional Studies (NCAPS). Previously, he has served as President of the Greater Kansas City School Administrators Association, President of the Greater Kansas City Suburban Association of Conference, and acted as co-chair of the Northland Education Business Alliance. Knowing that service to the community is of vital importance, he is a standing director with the Platte City Chamber of Commerce, Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Platte County Economic Development Council as well as participating as vice-chair of the KCI Area Action Team. Additionally, Dr. Reik serves as a commissioner of the KCI Corridor and Platte Purchase Tax Increment Finance Commissions. In 2011, Dr. Reik was recognized as “New Superintendent of the Year” by the Greater Kansas City School Administrators Association and is currently the Greater Kansas City nominee for the MASA Pearce Award which is presented to an outstanding Missouri Superintendent of Schools.
While leading Platte County for the past seven years, Dr. Reik has developed and deployed a strategic plan that is aligned to the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Criteria. It is the Mission, Vision, and Values of that strategic plan that guides Dr. Reik in his daily work.

Dr. Rob Gardner
Assistant Superintendent - Personnel/Operations
Dr. Gardner began his employment with the District in 1996 as a middle school reading and science teacher at Platte City Middle School. After two years, he served as an Assistant Principal of the same building. For the next five years he served as the principal of Paxton School. In 2006-07 he moved to become principal of Rising Star Elementary and also served as the Director of K-8 Curriculum and Instruction. In the Fall of 2007, he moved to the position of Assistant Superintendent where he currently oversees the areas of personnel and operations.
Dr. Gardner holds a masters degree from Northwest Missouri State University and an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He received his Doctor of Education degree at the University of Kansas in the fall of 2009. He currently serves as a board member for Missouri Association of School Personnel Administrators. He has also earned his Green Belt in Six Sigma from Johnson County Community College and is presently pursuing his Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) certification.

Dr. Mike Brown
Assistant Superintendent - Academic Services/Continuous Improvement
Dr. Mike Brown joined the Platte County School District administrative team in 2011. Dr. Brown's previous experience before coming to Platte County includes serving as a principal of Plaza Middle School in the Park Hill School District for seven years and assistant principal of Park Hill High School for five years. Dr. Brown was named the 2010 Middle School Principal of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Missouri Principals Association.
Before his administrative career, Dr. Brown was a high school social studies teacher and soccer coach in Blue Springs and the Park Hill School District. In between those experiences he was the head soccer coach for the University of Missouri-Kansas City for four years. He earned the Mid-Continent Conference Coach of the Year Award in 1996.
Dr. Brown received his Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership from St. Louis University and received his Education Specialist and masters degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He has been a Missouri Quality Award Examiner for the Excellence in Missouri Foundation for six years and has earned his Green Belt in Six Sigma from Johnson County Community College.
Dr. Brown is an avid marathon runner and has completed more than 175 marathons in 39 different states since 1997. He and his wife, Megan are the parents of four children, Tyler, Kyle, Beza, and Bethi.
