Recognition & Awards
District
The Platte County School District prides itself on high academic expectations and results. The District has been recognized by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) as a district with "Distinction in Performance" for the last four out of five years.
Platte County R-3 has also been applauded for scoring a perfect score ( 14 out of 14) on the Annual Performance Report also by DESE. This report evaluates a school district's performance in areas such as MAP score, ACT scores, advanced course offerings, vocational offerings, college placement, drop out rate and attendance.
The Platte City Middle School and Barry School both have been recognized as being in the "Top Ten Highest Performing Schools in the State." relative to MAP scores in Math and Communication Arts.
Board of Education
The Platte County R-3 Board of Education was honored as the 2008 Missouri's Outstanding Board of Education by the Missouri School Boards' Association.
They were recognized as one of five state finalist for "Outstanding Board of Education" for 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Staff
Dr. Mark Harpst was awarded "2003 Superintendent of the Year."
Dr. Mark Harpst served as President of the Missouri Association of School Administrators for 2004.
Dr. Harpst was the Pearce Award Representative for the Northwest District in 2004.
Marty Pope and Dianne Nespory were recognized and served as STARR teachers in 2005 and Stephanie Riechers served as STARR teacher in 2007.
Earl Soetaert serves as President of Northwest District Technology Association of Missouri.
Tina Zubeck was elected and serves as the Chairman of the Missouri Public School and Public Education Employees Retirement System (PSRS~PEERS) and is a past president of Missouri PTA.

Skylar Amos, Northland Career Center student, has been honored as the 2007 Construction Apprenticeship Tech Prep Student of the Year.

Fine Arts
The Pirate Pride Marching Band & Jazz Band placed first in their division at the Dynamic Music Festival in Orlando, Florida 2008. The Jazz Band earned the highest rating of any group.
The Symphonic Band performed at the Missouri Music Education Association convention in 2006.
The Marching Pirates have earned four Grand Championships.
Home of the Number One ranked oboe player in the State of Missouri for 2005 and 2006.
