I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Barry School.  We are located in the prestigious Platte County R-3 School District.  This is my nineteenth year in the field of education and my fifth year at Barry School.  As an alumnus of Barry School, I continue to take great pride in being a Platte County Pirate!

I spent my first five years teaching in the West Platte School District, then moved to Smithville as a third and fourth grade teacher.  From 2004-06, I worked with the Barry staff as assistant principal and in the summer of 2006 made the transition to principal of Barry School.  I received my undergraduate degree in elementary education from Central Missouri State University.  In 1999, I received my Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  One year later, I received my Educational Specialist in Administration, also from University of Missouri-Kansas City.

As a third through eighth grade school, we have a very unique situation at Barry School.  We take great pride in creating lasting relationships with our students and parents.  We are commited to creating a collaborative relationship with you and your student. We want all members of the community to feel welcomed and valued when they enter our building.  As the principal, I encourage all parents to be involved in their children’s education.  We offer many opportunities for involvement through PTA, PTSA, YouthFriends, and classroom helpers.

The staff and students at Barry have always considered themselves a small neighborhood school.  As a close knit school family, Barry’s pride in its students and their accomplishments is unparalleled.  Barry School has always been known for its strong academic program; the tradition continues.  We continue to focus on academic goals and high expectations for all students.

I am coming to the Platte County School District from California, Missouri. I was an Assistant Principal at the elementary as well as the middle school there for two years. Before starting my career as an administrator, I taught art for seven years (one year in elementary and six years in a middle school) and coached various sports at all levels.

I am originally from Independence, Missouri, and received my Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Central Missouri in 1999 and a Masters of Science in Educational Administration from Park University in 2003. I am married to Tamara, a dietician, and we have one child, a girl, named Elise Evelyn. I am very excited to be a part of Barry School and to be a Pirate.....Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
