Discovery Education Streaming

The Platte County R-3 School District currently subscribes to Discovery Education Streaming™ (DES), a digital video on-demand database service formerly known as unitedstreaming™. The service offers the district’s teachers more than 4,000 full-length educational videos segmented into 40,000 content-specific video clips of K-12 appropriate digital content which they can use to create customized lessons and learning experiences for students. Searchable by keyword, subject area, grade level, and curriculum standards, the DES multimedia database also includes instructional tools and professional development materials and resources to help teachers effectively integrate the content into their lessons and curriculum. Through the Discovery Educator Network, DES also offers teachers a venue to connect with and share tips and ideas about integrating media into classroom curriculum with fellow educators around the globe. Destiny Library Management Software System

Throughout the 2007-2008 school year, the district’s libraries have been undergoing a transition from their current Sagebrush Spectrum library management software which is being phased out to Destiny Library Management software. Currently, the process is in its implementation phase. Installation, technical training and end-user training are taking place this spring to prepare for a full roll-out of the system with the start of the 2008-2009 school year. The Destiny Library Management™ system will integrate and centralize the district’s circulation, cataloging, searching and reporting functions into one flexible library management system. The software will help the librarians manage circulation and library resources more efficiently, share resources via Interlibrary Loan requests, generate automatic email reminders to students and parents when books are due and follow students as they move throughout the district with a single patron database. Destiny will also allow for individual school site customization in regard to circulation policies, holdings, reading programs, graphics and age-appropriate functionality of screens based on user access levels. While this transition represents a significant investment for the district, it should pay big dividends by simplifying searching and information access and providing a familiar technology interface for students, in turn; making it more likely they will use the libraries and their resources.

SUCCESS  is a web-based comprehensive assessment platform with a content-neutral structure and the right mix of test delivery, scoring, and reporting options.  SUCCESS answers the most critical challenges with the testing process to help and integrate assessment with instruction more readily to accomplish the most important objective...improved student performance.

• EdGate tracks changes and maintains an up-to-date repository of all academic standards
• Content is automatically realigned to reflect any change in these standards. Success is Web-based, so test data can be accessed as needed, using the system’s multi-level security protocols.
• Easy-to-use tools enable educators to align tests to standards, so results can inform and guide instruction and will export easily for accountability reporting
• Online and paper test delivery and reporting give teachers and administrators optimum testing and reporting flexibility

Test results are available immediately and can be analyzed at the individual student, small group, whole class, school, and district levels to support data-driven instructional decision-making.
