December 2025 Update
At the December meeting, Newkirk Novak project managers reviewed construction progress of our 2025 Bond Issue projects.
- PCHS Phase 2: Steel erection is now complete for the two-story classroom wing and the media center, and structural steel work is underway on the new art wing. Inside the classroom wing, crews have poured the concrete slabs on the decks, and overhead rough-ins are already in progress. In the weeks ahead, exterior wall framing will begin, followed closely by roofing, air barrier installation, and the work needed to get the building dried in.
- Compass Elementary Parking Expansion: The plans for this project have been submitted to the City of Platte City for approval, and bidding will begin once approval is received. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-May, with an anticipated completion date of August 2026, in time for the upcoming school year.
November 2025 Update
At the November meeting, Newkirk Novak project managers reviewed construction progress of our 2025 Bond Issue projects.
- Pathfinder Playground: Fully opened in late October!
- PCHS Phase 2: Steel is rising quickly at the PCHS Phase 2 construction site, giving the community a first glimpse of the building’s future shape. Precast panels have been set for the black box theater. There will be exterior framing, overhead mechanical and electrical systems and roofing that will be starting in the month to come.
October 2025 Update
At the October meeting, Newkirk Novak project managers reviewed construction progress of our 2025 Bond Issue projects.
- Pathfinder Playground: Turf installation and playground equipment are being finalized, with the entire project scheduled to wrap up by the end of this month. Join us for a ribbon cutting and "Popsicles on the Playground" at 5pm on October 27!
- PCHS Phase 2: Crews have completed pouring slab-on-grade concrete in the classroom wing, and underground plumbing and electrical work is actively progressing. Foundation work continues to take shape, and structural steel and precast installation have begun.
September 2025 Update
At the September meeting, Newkirk Novak project managers reviewed construction progress of our 2025 Bond Issue projects.
- Pathfinder Playground: With about two-thirds of the playground already in use, the final pieces of equipment are set to begin installation in the coming days, followed closely by the addition of new turf. Full completion of the remaining playground elements is expected by early next month.
- Platte Purchase Site Amenities: The Platte Purchase Activities Complex site amenities buildings was turned over this month and the ribbon-cutting ceremony was held yesterday ahead of the first home middle school football game.
- PCHS Phase 2: The foundation work for the new classroom wing is now underway and masonry has begun on the exterior of the Performing Arts Center. Construction of the new CMU elevator shaft is set to begin in the coming weeks.
August 2025 Update
At the August meeting, Newkirk Novak project managers, reviewed construction progress of our 2025 Bond Issue projects.
- Pathfinder Playground: A portion of the new playground is already open for student use. The highly anticipated "Pirate Ship" and other specialty equipment are scheduled to arrive in early September, with installation and turf finishing to follow. Final fence work will be completed once the playground installation wraps up and the playground is estimated to be completed mid-October.
- Platte Purchase Site Amenities: Plumbing fixtures have been installed, and crews are wrapping up mechanical, electrical, and plumbing finishes. Additional work this month includes countertops, doors, toilet partitions, and landscaping. A ribbon cutting is planned for September 18, ahead of the first home middle school football game.
- PCHS Phase 2: Following demolition earlier this summer, Phase 2 construction is underway. The building pad is complete for the fine arts and classroom wing, and footings will begin this month. Storm structures are being installed, with underground utilities to follow. The bus loop stairs are complete, providing easier access to the parking lot. Brick staining on the Wilson Center is also underway to match the new construction.
July 2025 Update
At the July meeting, Newkirk Novak project managers, reviewed construction progress of our 2025 Bond Issue projects.
- Pathfinder Playground: The asphalt base course has been completed, fence posts are in place, and portions of the chain-link fencing have already been installed. Installation of the playground equipment is scheduled to begin in the coming month.
- Platte Purchase Site Amenities: The joists and structural insulated panels have been completed, and the air barrier system is scheduled for completion by the end of the month. With that phase wrapping up, installation of the brick veneer will soon begin. Interior mechanical systems are also being installed, along with framing for the drywall ceilings.
- PCHS Phase 2 and PCHS Track: Crews are on track to complete demolition in the southern portion of the existing high school this month. This milestone will pave the way for the start of Phase 2 construction, including earthwork and underground utility installation. Remodeled areas of Paxton Center are now complete to support classrooms displaced by the PCHS Phase 2 demolition, including the gym area and adjacent rooms, the large group classrooms, and former Paxton library. Paxton Center will temporarily house our band, vocal, theatre, art, world language, and math programs until PCHS Phase 2 is completed. The Long Range Facility Planning Committee will convene during the upcoming school year to begin envisioning future uses for the Paxton building.
June 2025 Update
At the June meeting, Newkirk Novak project managers, reviewed construction progress of our 2025 Bond Issue projects.
- Pathfinder Playground: New concrete sidewalks and a patio with a seating wall has been installed. Grading for the hard surface play area is also complete. The project is scheduled to open for students in the fall of 2025.
- Platte Purchase Site Amenities: Structural masonry walls are being installed, and mechanical and electrical rough-in is ongoing for the concessions and restroom areas. Roof framing will begin next month.
- PCHS Phase 2 and PCHS Track: Crews have begun deconstruction of the southern end of PCHS and will continue throughout July. Soil stabilization and fine grading has been completed for the new PCHS track in preparation for the concrete curbs and asphalt, followed by paving in late June.
May 2025 Update
At the May meeting, Dr. Devin Doll shared our preliminary project timeline as well as the following updates:
- Pathfinder Playground: Members of the Student Lighthouse Team ceremoniously broke ground on the project on May 2. Construction will begin once school ends.
- Platte Purchase Site Amenities: The building pad has been installed and footings have been poured. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work will soon begin on site.
- PCHS Phase 2: Paxton is being renovated to house our band, vocal, and theatre programs during PCHS Phase 2 construction. Job site trailers have been placed, and preparations are being made for the deconstruction of the southern end of PCHS which will begin in early June.
