Apple Devices FAQs
How will we ensure a safe environment?
The same protections will be in place on these student devices as any other technology devices in the District. This includes filtering, bandwidth control, and a process for District approval of apps. These measures, along with training for both students and staff in proper online conduct, will help students and staff have meaningful, positive experiences using technology.
Will the District be collecting a mobile device insurance fee?
Yes. The enrollment fee for insurance is $30, The deductible is $40 for accidental damage claims. If device is lost or stolen, the deductible is $100. Families should enroll for student device insurance by October 1 via the Device Insurance Form on your Parent Portal account.
What if a parent or guardian chooses not to purchase the mobile device insurance fee?
Without insurance, families are responsible for the repair or replacement costs as outlined below. Please note, insurance does not cover intentional damage or vandalism, and families will be responsible for damages that occur at school even if they elect for their child not to bring home their device.

What happens if my child accidentally damages the device or needs serviced?
Damaged devices need to be taken to the Media Center to be evaluated. If needed, it will be sent in for repair. A loaner device will only be issued to students whose device is sent off for repair. Loaner devices will not be issued for vandalism or intentional damage. In these cases, the device will not be replaced until all fines/fees have been paid and the Building Administrator has approved the replacement.
Can students decorate their devices?
No, stickers should not be placed on the devices, if we see stickers on the device, we will ask you to remove them and you will be charged a $20.00 cleaning fee. If you want to buy a protective cover for your Neo Macbook you can do that and then place stickers on the cover/case. But the device must not have any stickers other than what Technology uses for device identification. Ipads should not have stickers on the device or case.
What happens if my child forgets to bring his or her device to school?
If you forget your device you will not receive one from the Media Center. Loaner devices in the media center are only for damaged devices.
Is the device filtered at home?
Yes. Both Macbook and iPad use will be filtered at home like it would be at school.
Can parents control usage of their student's device at home?
Mosyle@home is a free utility provided by Mosyle.
What is the best way to clean the screen/keyboard?
A microfiber cloth can be used on the screen and keyboard. If a cleaner is needed distilled water is best used on a cloth rag.
Can I purchase my device when I graduate?
No, these are not for purchase.
Can I install software?
No, only District provided software may be installed, by one of our Technology staff members if it can’t be installed remotely.
Can I put my personal Apple ID on my devices?
No, these are District-provided devices for school only. Personal accounts are not allowed.
Can I let a student or staff member use my device?
No, you are the only allowed user to sign into your device, others will not have access. Please be aware that staff members have the authority to restrict usage of the device.
It's asking for a password to run updates?
Close the password window, updates are applied automatically after a set amount of days.
