Mrs. Teresa Harvey
Special Education Teacher
Platte City Middle School
Welcome! I have been teaching students with special needs since 2003. My career began in this district many years ago as a paraprofessional and I continued in that position for six years before leaving to pursue my education to become a teacher. I graduated from Purdue University and am thrilled to be back for my second year in Platte County doing what I love in a district I admire and respect for its dedication to children.
I am happily married to my husband, Mark, and we have two children who graduated from this school district. My two grandchildren are the light of my life and I'm enjoying watching them grow, learn, and develop into two amazing individuals. My hobbies include reading, walking, biking, and spending time with my husband.
My goal, when working with students with special needs, is to do everything I can to help those students help themselves to become independent, functional, happy individuals who can make a contribution to society. This happens through a collaborative effort between myself, the student, and their parents.
This year I will be teaching in our Functional classroom all day except for 5th hour Resource ELA. The Functional classroom is designed to help students learn basic functional skills like cooking, laundry, shopping, manners, and involvement in the community as a whole as well as intensive instruction on their IEP goals. The 5th hour ELA class is Reading and Writing instruction only focused on IEP goals. Please feel free to contact me any time you have a comment or question.
As always, I look forward to doing everything I can to make your child's middle school years successful.
