Mrs. Kristy Unruh

Let me take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Kristy Unruh, and I am the Early Childhood Special Education Teacher located at Barry School in the Platte County R-III School District. I hold dual certification in Elementary Education as well as Early Childhood Special Education and I am currently pursuing a master’s degree of Applied Science in Assessment with an emphasis in Autism Spectrum Disorders. I have over 20 years of experience in working with children in general education and with special needs.

I have been married to my husband, Greg for 12 years, and we have three children ages 23, 9 and 7. My oldest son Gabriel, a 2014 graduate of PCR-III, attended college and now lives and works on the East Coast. This school year my daughter Amelia starts fourth grade and my youngest son Barrett will be in the second grade at Pathfinder Elementary. Since moving into the district in 2006, I have been blessed with the opportunity to volunteer and get to know a diverse population of children and families with the activities and clubs with which I have been involved. Because of these positive experiences, my family and I made the long-term decision to remain in the district and become a more integral part.
Outside of school, my family and I love to travel and try new things. And we're big fans of Kansas City - love football, baseball, BBQ, going to Union Station, the KC Zoo and volunteering in the community! 

I believe one of the most important things we can do for your child is to maintain good communication between home and school. Please know that I am always willing to listen to any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child’s success within my classroom.
