The purpose of this initiative is to improve student attendance at Siegrist Elementary by fostering positive relationships with students and helping them feel welcome and valued in our school. We recognize that students get sick, and we want families to follow the guidelines for keeping kids home when they have a fever, or other contagious illnesses. We also recognize that kids aren't 100% in control over their attendance, and that is why we want to partner with parents to encourage attendance at school.
Each classroom has a chance to win $100 worth of classroom supplies (donated by Farmers Insurance) by having the best attendance rate for the month. Classroom teachers will be encouraged to assist in discussions regarding the importance of attendance and should remain informed of their class attendance rate.
The Attendance Team (principals, social worker, counselor, and administrative assistant) will meet at the first of each month to review student attendance. Attendance letters (level 1, level 2, level 3, tardy letters, and improvement notes) will be sent home to families and attendance files will be maintained for these students whose attendance falls below 90%.
If a student drops below 90% attendance, he or she will be thoughtfully paired with a staff accountability partner to provide extra encouragement and support. They will meet at least every two weeks to discuss attendance goals and celebrate success.
