Three File for Three Seats on PCR-3 Board of Education
Three candidates have filed for three positions on the Platte County R-3 Board of Education. Filing closed for candidates on January 21. Candidates (listed in filing order) are Sharon Sherwood (incumbent), Buffy Smith (incumbent), and Bobby Vann. Mrs. Sherwood has served on the Board of Education since 2008, and Mrs. Smith has served on the Board of Education since 2017. Dr. Gwendolyn Cooke, whose seat was up on the Board of Education, did not file for election.
State law allows school districts to forego an election when the number of candidates filing is the same as the number of positions available on the Board of Education. This saves taxpayer dollars because the school districts do not have to help with election-related expenses, which are normally divided between all entities with candidates or issues on the ballot.
Mrs. Sherwood, Mrs. Smith, and Mr. Vann will be sworn in as Board of Education members for a three-year term at the Reorganization Meeting on April 16, 2020. Visit www.plattecountyschooldistrict.com/boardofeducation for more information on our Board of Education.
