Two-Hour Delayed Start

Why a Delayed Start Instead of Canceling School?

Oftentimes the roads just need a few hours to allow surfaces to become safer for students and staff to travel to school.

Schedule Changes

With a two-hour delayed start, all starting schedules are pushed two hours later including:

  • Bus Routes (Example: If the bus normally picks up students at 6:45am, it will now arrive at 8:45am)
  • Doors Open at School Buildings (Example: Doors normally open at 7:20am. Doors will now open at 9:20am)
  • Staff Report Times (Example: Staff normally reports at 7:00 am. Staff will now report at 9:00am). Custodial, maintenance staff will report as normal.

YClub

In general for delayed starts, YClub will be open at 7:00 am at all sites for those families who are already signed up. If there are any changes to YClub, this will be communicated in the message to families.

Northland Career Center

The morning session at Northland Career Center (NCC) will be canceled on 2-hour delayed start days. Platte County High School (PCHS) students who attend NCC’s morning session, will report to PCHS instead of NCC.

Great Beginnings Early Childhood

Great Beginnings Early Childhood at both Barry School and District Education Center will be canceled on 2-hour delayed start days.

All Schools

**It is important to know that on a delayed start day, we dismiss at the same time as a regular day.

Before School Clubs & Activities

When the District has a two-hour delayed start, all before school clubs and activities are canceled.
After school clubs and activities will continue as scheduled or changes will be communicated during the day.

Meals

A light breakfast will be available at all school buildings. Lunch will be served as close to the normal schedule as possible.
